Who are we?
N.B. At the 2010 AGM the Committee felt that with the changing
technology the current name of the club,
"Worcester Camcorder Club", was no
longer appropriate.
After some discussion, the members voted to change the
name of the club to "Worcester Film Makers".
The Club was originally formed in the early 1960’s. It met at the Piers Plowman Club in Graham Road Malvern and was called “The Malvern and Worcester Cine Group’. When the Piers Plowman Club was closed (this Club was formed during the War as a place where people drafted into Malvern, who were in shelter billets, could meet socially. There were lots of Clubs within the Piers Plowman Club) the Cine Club found another meeting place in the Malvern Cinema Organ Club in 1982-84 then moved onto the social room of Russell House, St Clements’s Close, St. Johns, Worcester in 1985. Some time after this the Club changed its name to “Worcester Movie Makers”. About 1997/8 it was realised that more and more members made video films and the name was changed to “The Worcester Cine and Camcorder Club” but within a year all the cine people had changed to video or had left the Club so the name was changed to “The Worcester Camcorder Club”. Almost immediately the membership increased and we outgrew the room at Russell House (and especially the parking space) so we moved to Perdiswell where we have been ever since.
Our grateful thanks to Ruth Bennett and Stan Fray for this archival
information.
Incidentally Ruth joined
in 1982 and has at some time won all our trophies.
Our Society is a wonderful mixture of individuals from all walks of life - some brilliant camera users, others who are new to the hobby and the majority of members' abilities lie somewhere between the two!
What makes our evenings so enjoyable is the wide range of photographic interests which members bring to the Society. We currently have 30 members and an average evening attendance of over 20 at each meeting, so you can see we are all very enthusiastic about our interests. You are welcome to come along as a visitor and "try us out" for an evening. If you like the atmosphere and what we do, you can become a member for an annual subscription of: £20 and £30 for a joint membership.
